Pharmacological studies on rats using a model of alcoholic liver disease has shown statistically significant improved liver function tests. Two Phase II randomized, double-blind controlled clinical studies, conducted at large teaching hospitals, have shown statistical significance in improvement of nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, dizziness, altered sensorium,  icterus (yellow discoloration of conjunctiva of eyes) and liver function tests. A reduction in liver size on ultrasound and significantly reduced mortality in the treatment group was notable.
